Wave Energy Assessment and Applications
The Training School will include various topics related with wave energy assessment, devices and technologies. The seminar will be divided in three distinct thematic sessions, namely: 1) wave energy assessment, 2) wave energy devices and technologies and 3) potential environmental effects of wave energy converters and arrays.
Training School Content
The Training School is planned for 5 days, with five hours of training per day;
Day 1

An introduction to the wave measurement devices and techniques.

Global wave data sources.

Introduction to numerical wave modelling in offshore and coastal (shallow water) areas.
Day 2

Description and modelling of wave climate

Estimation of design (extreme) waves: Methods, effects of wave directionality, multivariate extremes
Day 3
March 18

Wave energy converters and technologies, including offshore and on-shore technologies/ devices

Comparative evaluation of WECs.
Day 4

Innovative designs of hybrid wind – wave energy systems.

Introduction to the main principles of the hydrodynamic analysis of wave energy devices and arrays.
Day 5

Environmental effects of wave energy devices and systems according to the specific device type/technology and the area of interest.

Funding Application Details
Applicants are invited to apply for a WECANet Training School Grant of 500€ towards travel and subsistence cost incurred to attend the School. Early Stage Researchers and PhD students in wave energy are eligible to apply for a Grant as trainee in order to participate to
the WECANet Training School.
Eligible Trainees are:

Trainees from COST Full Members / COST Cooperating Member
-
Trainees from Approved NNC Institutions
-
Trainees from Approved European RTD Organisations.
The criteria for COST Action support can be found on the COST Action Vademecum. Any costs over 500€ must be covered by the applicant. The Grant will be award after verified attendance at the course. A total of 5 WECANet Training School Grants are available to support attendance of this Training School.
